How to Connect with Your Kids When You Have Cancer

Cancer treatment can impact how an ill parent interacts with their well children.

Here are three ways to connect with your child:

  1. Explain honestly: “The medicine is making me tired today, running is difficult right now. Can we try something different?”

  2. Give alternate suggestions that are reasonable to you: Read books, snuggle with a movie and a snack, play a board game, work on an art project, or be the timer or judge for the running activity or a performance.

  3. Follow their lead: “Great choice! Thanks for understanding.”
